Re: Master Cleanse
Wed, January 21, 2004 - 3:37 PMYes, I've tried it. It worked all right for me. After every fast I drink a variation of it: water with some honey and salt. I also eat a banana as my first solid food. This helps the digestive system get going again in a really gentle manner, and it induces a bowel movement soon after. -

Re: Master Cleanse
Sun, June 20, 2004 - 9:15 AMI'm starting my first master cleanse tomorrow...decided on a variation for my first time, even though i've done 3 week juice fasts in the past or 2 weeks of raw, etc. I'm going to start it with two days of juice, then do 5 days of the lemonade mixture, then two days of juice and then 2 days of raw. Thanks for the suggestion of honey, lemon, and salt George, I'll try that.

In the master cleanser book it says in no indefinate terms that honey is poison and should not be consumed under any circumstances...
seriously..
"Honey must not be used at any time internally. It is manufactured from the nectar picked up from the flowers by the bees—good enough in itself, perhaps—then predigested, vomited and stored for their own future use with a preservative added. It is deficient in calcium and has many detrimental effects for the human being.
According to one authority, honey is "a magical and mystical word in Healthfoodland. It is one of the most overpromoted, overpriced product being sold to gullible health foodists. The great value attributed to honey is delusive…honey is only a little less empty and more dangerous than sugar."
Just as with alcohol, honey, being predigested, enters the blood directly, raising the sugar content very rapidly above normal. To correct this, the pancreas must produce insulin immediately or possible death can occur. More insulin than necessary is likely to be produced, and the blood sugar level then drops below normal. This can produce blackout spells and even death if it goes to low. When blood sugar is below normal, a person will feel depressed. The regular use of honey can create constant imbalances wich in turn will adversely affect the normal function of the liver, pancreas and spleen. Hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia are the results of the use of unbalanced sugars. The balanced sugar in maple syrup and sugar can juice causes no dangerous side effects. Artificial, synthetic, and refined sugars have no place in a natural diet. " -

Re: Master Cleanse
Sat, July 17, 2004 - 9:52 AMI think it's a major exageration. Much like a lot in that book. I think he has a lot of good points that are relevant, but that he speaks in too many absolutes without enough eplenation, recognizing of variance, and definitely without enough reference.
I'm not saying I'm against the cleanse itself, but reading the book was a big turnoff. -

well.. wether or not you believer that honey is bad for you is fine..
but i do think it is definately a mistake to substitute the maple syrup for honey as honey has none of all the great nutrients that the pure maple syrup as got..
i found his theories about how we assimilate much of our protein from the air we breathe highly interesting..
also it was the book that made me think about how all the biggest, strongest mammals in the world are all vegetarian..
i know what you mean though.. for me the leisure suit larry picture of stanely in the inside cover was a bit of a turn off...

Fri, February 25, 2005 - 3:29 PMAny "variance" would not be the "master cleanse", it would be something else. You can make up any kind of fast you want.

Ooops.. Forgot to answer the original question..
I have done this cleanse 4 times now. Each 3 times for 10 days and once for only 4.
the one time i only did it for 4 was because I broke down and ate because it was just too much.
The hardest thing about this cleanse is not the fact that you get so hungry because you aren't eating.. But because it's so hard to be around food that you can't even taste.. seriously..
your senses get heightened until every smell is deliciously appealing and you long for any flavor other than lemonade.
The most important thing about this cleanse is that you don't eat anything at all.. I've heard some people doing this with juice or soups.. which I'm sure is fine enough for some fasts.. but it's not the same thing.
Last time I did it with the salt water flush every morning and herbal laxative tea at night..
On the 10th day I was surpised to find that i had plenty of energy to go on a long bike ride with no weakness whatsoever. (maybe it's all that maple syrup)
Try it following the book to the letter for the entire 10 days.. You'll feel great when it's done. -

Re: Master Cleanse
Sat, January 8, 2005 - 9:09 PMThx for that line up of comments, guys. I'm readying for the fast starting on the new moon, Monday. So...I'm a bit nervous, as I'm busy and the way I did it for a couple of days last week was putting lemon pieces and cayenne in a tea pot and i just heat it up when i'm hungry...
add the maple syrup when i go to drink some. I wonder, do you think this method works, as its not just glass by glass, and i dont measure per se. but...
also, did you have any problems with energy//:? I know, i work in restaraunts so my senses will definitely get hightened! i do think i felt clearer on the second day of my first "fast" this will be my actual first fast with NO food.

Re: Master Cleanse
Wed, January 26, 2005 - 5:56 PMI have a question about breaking this fast. The very helpful link to the m.c. suggests two days of orange juice and then fruit and vegetables on the third day. Anyone done this or have other suggestions? I am six days in and used the cleanse to quit smoking. I am a bit nervous that i will go beserk when i can eat again. -

Re: Master Cleanse
Wed, March 2, 2005 - 12:27 PMI have not done a long MC fast, but I have noticed that I have MORE energy at the gym when I've eaten nothing and had only the lemonaide all day. I ate a sandwich on accident yesterday for lunch (it was free) and I couldn't stand the thought of going to the gym with food in my stomach, even 5 hours later.
