starting a fast today

This is my first time fasting while also trying to deal with normal life (working, exercising, socializing). I hope that I don't feel too awful, but know that I have plenty to work out over the next 10 days. During past fasts I've been very 'in my head' and ultra-hypersensitive, plus headachy and fatigued (until the bliss kicks in).

Any suggestions for coping with everyday life while fasting would be appreciated :)

    Advice:

Put as many obligations as possible on hold.

Try relaxed socializing: one hour at a local cafe

Allow for as much sleep as you need (probably more than usual)

    Listen to your body

    Hope that helps!

      Thanks Emma!

I'm on Day 3 and finally hit my stride ... after a terrible headache all night, I woke up, did the salt water flush, and have felt like an absolute champ ever since.

        How did it go, Lauren?

I tried the Master Cleanse a couple of weeks ago, but I couldn't get past the taste. I tried more/less lemon, more/less syrup, but I only lasted 24 hours.

I'd like to cleanse and fast, but ugh. Suggestions?

"but I only lasted 24 hours..."

what do you think was the main factor besides the taste that made you stop?

ya know, 24 hours is a long time... and kudos to you for even doing that... ^_____^

as you already know, people are different in terms of will power... but when it comes down to it... EVERYONE gets hungry regardless of how much mind power they have...

          how about:

          1. preping the body and mind - at least a week of raw foods and veggies and begin to write a journal prior to starting the MC?

          2. connecting with people for support - a source of encouragement and accountability? also if you live with family members/friends who are not on the MC... will they be more sensitive to your cleansing (ie., making brownies, etc)

          3. creativity - find other ways to prepare the lemon brew? freeze it ice cubes? it has a different taste and texture ya know? hehe

          4. supplies - are you manually squeezing the lemons? its a lot of work... access to affordable lemons and maple syrup

          5. working (occupation) situation - some jobs just dont allow to have access to a restroom easily... and you will be making several visits or more during the MC... is this possible?

          strategy is the key...

well, fasting itself isn't too hard, I've actually been trying to get there. It was really the taste!!! I love a bit of lemon in water, but the syrup and cayenne were just "ugh!" I didn't necessarily feel hungry, though I did find it funny how much I wanted to eat because I was just used to the process of eating. I wonder if I should use the recipe but increase the water - thus "watering" down the taste?

I may try broth and fruits and veg. for a while. I've got vegetable broth and chicken broth. My daughter is gone for 2 weeks, so I'm going to try to have mostly fruits and veggies anyway.

I was squeezing the lemons myself. It didn't bother me too much--I like preparing things when I know they are good for me. Going to the bathroom isn't an issue. I try to drink 64oz of water while I am at work, which makes for several trips.

My plan WAS to do the MC starting Friday night and going through Sunday night. But, like I said, I lasted until about Saturday afternoon.

          The master cleanse rules.
          Taste-wise:
Try using limes instead of lemons, or a mixture of lemons & limes. This helped my friend a lot. Also, try less cayenne pepper if that's what's getting to you.

I'm planning a juice fast soon, which will be my first time. Seems easier than the MC because of more variety. But we'll see.

when I did my 7 day fast recently, I was taking a variety of herbs (powders ans teas)... One I felt was most important was alfalfa! It contains most all of the vitamins and minerals! That kept me going, although I did experiance a lack of physical energy.... I really enjoyed relaxing and doing mild tasks like like planting seeds, painting and reading. Its a great time to focus on you conciousness and not your physical being....

My advice is not to do the Master Cleanse at all.
You deprive yourself of nutrients...hence feeling crappy.

You do deprive your body of certain nutrients while on the master cleanse, but you do consume quite a bit of others(vit C & A, manganese, zinc). And depending on how much of the lemonade concoction you drink, you also can consume a good amount of calories. I was surprised by how many nutrients are in the ingredients that make up the "lemonade." I also think it tastes good. Though of course anything you consume in mass quantities will lose some of its appeal after a while.

I'm on day 4 of my 10 day MC. It has its ups and downs, for sure. But I am feeling pretty good today. Good enough to keep going.

Hi! You're probably long-done with your fast by now, but if you're interested, I'm keeping a log of my juice fast, which I'm doing while teaching 140 seventh graders every day for six-eight hours a day! I haven't had this much responsibility while fasting in the past, but it's going okay so far (today was day one). Hope you received all of the benefits you hoped for from your fast! - Ellen
