Re: Prune Juice
Thu, August 4, 2005 - 9:52 PMNot a good idea. Recently found to be the highest juice in the world for this: Acrylamide (Google Acrylamide and be prepared to be scared, very scared).
Sad since Prunes are the highest food product in total ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity - ie. Anti-Oxidant activity) per ounce/volume. This figure is often debated though. It's dehydrated, not an original foodstuff. How you'd measure it matters too. The second highest is Rasins (recently shown to be effective in dentifrice) but again, it's a dehydrated version of another fruit.
Bluberries - undehyrdated, are higher than any common food proudct in AntiOxidants. Higher even than Prunes PER CALORIE, but not per ounce (3 times as much per calorie, but 1/2 as much per volume). Recently, harder to find and more expensive things have surpassed Blueberries, Pomegranite (very expensive and not as easy to find or as versatile to use) and one thing from Brazil that even outperforms that (much harder to find and utilize).
But there is life after Prunes and Prune Juice. Other sources of fiber also.
