taking an herbal laxative every night should help. i deal with constipation too and I take probiotics and psyllium husk every night. The psyllium husk helped me out tons. I am going to start taking herbal laxatives along with my psyllium husk every night. One thing that I have read was that Adrenal fatigue causes constipation. Hypothyroidism does also. I have problems with my Adrenals I get stressed out very easily, I have food allergies, and Hypoglycemia. I think that my Adrenal Fatigue causes all of these including my poor bowel movements. I also can't eat spicy foods at all even the very mild chili powder gives me constipation, bloating, and stinky breath. I also make sure that I eat only whole grains and I eat a lot of legumes like beans, peas, and lentils. They have a lot of fiber which helps my bowel movements, as well as protein which helps keep my blood sugar steady.

Psyllium husks, herbs, cayenne pepper and all these other things are really just masking the symptoms here though arent they?! You are constipated because your digestive system is under stress, and it is understress for a reason. You need to adress that reason.

What is a 'fair amount of fruits and veggies'. Are the fruits ripe? Are you eating more fruit or more veggies? Do you eat meat, grains, refined foods, dairy? How do you handle your emotions? Are you relaxed, assertive? Are you drinking enough water?

There are A Lot of causes of constipation, and all of them linked to diet and emotions. Would need to know more....

Take Care

Hmmm that is odd cuz I thought spicy food induces bowel movements. But my acupuncturist brother-in-law told me the same thing, that constipation at my age is most likely due to excessive internal heat which of course can only be exacerbated by spicy food. I am currently taking some herbs he made me.

Before this, I was on some supplements from a Dr. Schultz here in Southern Cali. It had cayenne pepper, psyllium seed, and some other ingredients in them. I'm gonna try a variety of methods before I decide which is best for me. Next on my list is turkey rhubarb, a colon cleanse supplement.
